I’m 28 today! Happy birthday to me!
As a gift to myself this past weekend, I decided to go back to being a regular person, financially speaking. My sister was visiting to celebrate and I had a bunch of fun plans, so I decided to just tell my budget to fuck off for a weekend. And it was glorious.
I ate!
I drank!
I made merry!
I haven’t gone totally budget-free in years, so this was a wonderful way to ring in my 28th year. However, this little vacation from financial responsibility also demonstrated that I desperately need a budget. I am very, very bad a spending prudently. While I didn’t go completely nuts, I definitely still don’t have a “sense” of when I’ve started to overspend. I have no internal calculator that sends me a mental alert when I’ve gone too far. And I went too far, for sure. I haven’t done the math yet, but I know that rest of February is going to be tight.
Oh well. I’m not worried about it (at least not today!) and I think the weekend was a good refresher for me on why I spend so much time and energy on making financial plans. It’s not for nothing, that’s for sure.
But that’s enough serious chatter for today. I think I hear a cake calling my name… 🙂
