So after a bit of an absence, I’m back and ready to tackle 2011. My first step is to significantly change my 2011 goals. I decided to take a different approach from the one I initially proposed. Instead, I’m going to set 11 goals for 2011. Why? Because it sounds cute 🙂 But seriously, I need to make a major change in my financial priorities to account for the zillions of question marks looming in my near-ish future (see goal #1 below). So I just decided to scrap my original plan for my 2011 goals and start over. I’m very comfortable with the goals below and confident about my ability to make them happen.
So, here are my 11 goals for 2011. The goals that require explanation include some annotation.
1. Get $6,000 into savings by July 30, 2011
Changes are afoot in my personal life, and I need to have some cash on hand to pay for whichever life plan I decide to go with. It’s very confusing and complicated, but basically I don’t want money to be a factor in the decision I end up making. If I end up not using the money, I’ll pay off my car with it. If I end up needing it, it’s there.
2. Contribute at least $1,000 to my Roth IRA
3. Read 30 books
4. Lose 15 lbs.
5. Complete a Couch 2 5K plan
6. Take 3 yoga classes in one month
Why in a month? Because I want to give yoga a fair shot and I feel like taking classes here and there won’t work. I need to see if I enjoy yoga as a practice, not as casual time-filler.
7. Cook 3 new recipes every month
8. Get a really stellar, really expensive haircut
I need a new haircut, and I want it done by someone who’s the real deal and will do a good job. I’ll stick with my look for now while I’m trying to accomplish goal #1 (see above) but I need to make this a priority.
9. Recycle
All the time. I’m sporadic about recycling because the system my apartment has totally sucks. So I’m going to find a recycling center nearby that I’ll drop off my stuff as needed.
10. Return assignments to my students within 5 days of the due date
11. Spend $500 on new clothes
Going along with goal #8, I need to invest some money in my personal appearance. Also like goal #8, I’ll wait until goal #1 is accomplished to do this, but it’s happening. For reals.
And with that, I’ll be spending the rest of the night working on goal #3!
