So, a while back I mentioned that I thought that paying $63 per month just for Internet seemed outrageous, so I called up Comcast and asked about getting a cable/Internet deal. The nice woman on the phone told me that she could give me a promotional cable/Internet package deal for $49.99 for the next 6 months, then the rate would jump up to $79.99 per month after that. Fine, that seemed reasonable. So I agreed, the cable guy came out, and I was all set to get a bill for about $80, because there are $30 “start up” fees – basically they charge you to have a cable guy come out to your house.
So imagine my shock and horror when I opened my mailbox and found a bill from Comcast for $171.
Given that Comcast is my arch nemisis, I expected problems, but I did not expect this big of a problem. So I called up the billing department today – which is a whole other hassle because they try to locate you by your phone number – and the nice girl on the phone told me that she has no idea what the other nice girl was talking about with her $49.99 deal. And there’s nothing she can do except start me on another promotion today that will be $62.99 per month for 6 months. It gets more complicated because Comcast bills a month in advance, so I essentially received a bill for 2 months at the same time because the cable guy started my cable service almost a month ago. So technically, because she started the promotion today, I should be getting a credit on my next bill, if I pay the full amount.
After much back and forth (we were on the phone for almost an hour), I asked to speak to a supervisor, who was supposed to call me back two hours ago. We’ll see if this alleged supervisor ever calls back, but if not I will have to call back again tomorrow to be sure that I have the whole thing all straightened out.
Dealing with Comcast is an absolute nightmare, for so many reasons, not the least of which is that they almost never stick to their word about what they are going to charge you. And, they make it almost impossible to read your bill. And, they make it almost impossible to get in touch with the right person. AND, they are the only cable/Internet provider in my area, so there is really not much I can do.
Has anyone else ever had problems with Comcast? Please tell me I’m not alone.
