On Sunday, T and I were on our way to dinner. I was driving down the highway, and he mentioned that something in my car sounded funny to him. And there was a sound, a sort of thumping sound. I just told him to turn up the radio and ignore it (the only time I subscribe to the “ignorance is bliss” way of thinking is with cars) but he insisted that I pull over. We both checked all around the car, because it kind of sounded like something was stuck on one of the tires. We didn’t find anything, and none of the indicators on my dashboard were on. So I turned up the radio and ignored it. Until today.
I was driving home after a long, tiring day. I put in 10 hours today because I was helping one of my former students for the ACT after school, and I was hungry and I just wanted to go home. And of course, I’m halfway home and: the indicator on my dashboard went on that means “low tire pressure.” I started hearing something really weird, so I turned around and went to the tire place up the highway. It was a good thing, because one of my back tires was almost completely flat! Again! I just had a flat tire a month ago!
I was hoping that maybe this one could be patched; the last one couldn’t because of where the nail had punctured it. This time, it was a screw and it also couldn’t be patched. Another $73 out the window on anther new tire. In a month.
I called my dad and I must have been sounding edgy (hungry, tired – not a good combination with me) because he told me that he would hold off on cashing my last check to him for my car so that I don’t have to charge the tire, which was a huge relief. I’m kind of hoping he’ll just tell me at Easter that he won’t cash it ever, which would be incredibly generous, but I’m not expecting it.
What are the chances?! I’ve been driving since I was 16 and I’ve never gotten a flat tire!! At least I fit it into my budget, but it was still very annoying.
Geeze Louise.
