I never get sick of reading personal finance blogs. I’m not sure why, because I get sick of pretty much everything else pretty quickly. Maybe it’s because money is a topic that there is an almost endless number of perspectives on, and I love hearing about all of them. Maybe it’s because I like reading about peoples’ goals – I do get pretty excited when I hear that one of my bloggy friends has reached a personal milestone. Or maybe it’s just because I have an insatiable voyeuristic streak and just want to know what other people are doing with their money.
At any rate, I read a lot of personal finance blogs and I really love it when a new personal finance blog comes on the scene. By the same token, I love discovering a blog that’s been around for a while, but that I’ve never read before. So I wanted to share a few of my favorite “new” reads – again, not all of these blogs are actually new, some are just new to me:
What can I say about Johnny and Joanna? Well, put simply, they are my favorite Internet couple. Not only do they do an awesome job of managing their money as couple, they are both smart, funny writers and are so obviously deliriously in love that they give me hope for humanity.
I really love KK’s blog because it feels like she and I have so much in common – we’re close in age and have paid off almost the same amount of debt. I consider her the utmost authority on paying off student loan debt. If you’re struggling with your student debt – or just want to add a great new blog to your regular rotation – check KK’s blog out.
Interestingly, this blogger also goes by KK, but her story is a little different. A native of Trinidad, she’s lived in a number of different countries and is very vocal about the benefits of living a debt free life. Her tone is always inspirational and every comment that I’ve ever gotten from her has been thoughtful and supportive. I can’t say enough good things about her!
This is an example of a blog that is definitely not new – she’s been writing since 2011 – but is new to me, and I could kick myself for not having followed it from the beginning! The writer is a young professional dealing with a lot of the financial issues we all struggle with when we’re just starting out, and she writes about them with humor and honestly. Especially funny are the tags she has for her posts – my favorite is “That Shit Cra.” Seriously. Hilarious.
Every time I read one of Tonya’s posts, I walk away with something to think about. She works in a creative field and lives on the West coast, so right off the bat I’m getting a perspective that’s very different from my own. Her writing comes straight from the heart and, like I said, always gives me a new way to think about some aspect of my finances, which is definitely a special skill. If you’re not reading this blog, you’re missing out.
What’s your favorite new (or new to you) personal finance blog?
